Webdev process

Initially the webdev site will not be enabled with all the functionality of the existing vk2bv.org website, such as members only access and the shop. These plugins may or may not be activated until full migration. Others that relate to dynamically rendered content will be implemented as identified. The rest of the content appears to be static pages or posts.

Navigation

The current site’s navigation consists of a vertical sidebar on the left hand side of the desktop site (with dynamically rendered content depending on date), and a horizontal strip at the masthead of the homepage.

Listing of add-ons to the current website:

  • Jetpack appears to be installed but not activated. I noticed an indication that the next billing cycle begins on 31 Jan 2023(?)
    • Akismet Anti-spam appears to be a subset of Jetpack and is active
    • Extras appears to be active
    • However there are suggestions on the dashboard to connect Jetpack to wordpress.com to “eanble further features”.
  • There are 154 published posts and 22 still in draft form
    • We don’t appear to be consistently using the categories feature to organise posts by categories such as event (12), NEWS (5), project (3), site updates (7), Space (1), Uncategorized (129) etc which may or may not be a factor in erratic inconsistent presentation. (I understand categories can be nested so if you needed to you could have a parent tag of contests and child tags of CQ WW SSB, Oceania DX CW, Trans Tasman, Harry Angel etc)
    • Tags usage is similarly very low. There are 20 tags (ARNSW, Club News, Contest, DMR, education, EME, IPS, JMFD, powerpole, propegation, QSL, satellite, SDR, space weather, trans-tasman, UHF, updae, VK100ANZAC, VK2BV and Wicen.
  • We have 33 published events which include regular repeating events like meetings etc and one-offs such as special working bees, or special meeting presentations or external events such as WIA AGMs etc. Categories has not been implemented within events to aid with organisation of presentation, perhaps due to small number.
    • The site appears to have the Timely All-in-one calendar calendar implemented, which appears to be part of how we render our events on the site.
    • We don’t appear to be using ticketing from the same people, Timely
  • The Shop Page WP in the dashboard is unused. We are using another solution.
    • Event tickets seems to be installed but inactive
  • There are 250 media items – 203 images, 1 audio file (ISS), 42 documents, 2 spreadsheets, 37 PDF files, 69 ‘unattached’ media items. Media items also do not use categories on this site, with 4 exceptions.
    • GMedia Library – a free version – is installed with 31 pages with 30 images each.
  • There are 144 published pages on the site with 17 drafts. A number of the pages act as placeholders for dynamically produced pages on the site.
  • We have a total of 35 published comments on the site.
  • Ninja Forms is installed but I’m not yet sure how integrated it is into the operation of the site.
  • The active Theme is Twenty Fourteen
  • There is an extensive list of plugins, a few associated with AWS hosting.
  • It would be valuable if the list of plugins installed could be reveiewed to identify those no longer required for the new installation, and how the plugins with a future use in the new installation might be migrated across.
